Is there an option to have our fonts 'fixed' according to our
preference? An option perhaps. Each time we compose, our preferred font
settings (including color) will be there, instead of having to change
it each time before we press 'sent'. Please help. Tess

Tess, do suggest it to Google - I think that's a great idea!

Among the reasons why I retain MSN Mail as my default e-mail is that MSN provides dozens of fonts, selection of any as the default font, tabbing, composition functions to a significant extent like those available in Word, and the easiest of all accesses to saved individual and group e-mail contacts.  I have suggested all of these improvements to Google, but have never received a response.  The only reason I use Gmail at all is because MSN Mail has a contact limit of 650 which applies not only to individual contacts but also to each contact within a group you have created - and that severely limits the volume of group e-mailing possible.  Google has an ongoing opportunity to make its Gmail outperform MSN Mail, but so far has not been willing to take the steps needed to do so.  I urge all Gmail users to keep after Google to create the expansion and flexiblity of Gmail. - Wolfeman

While I support your right to desire those additional features, and
encourage you to pursue getting them added (by suggesting it to Google
through proper channels), I *CAN NOT* and *WILL NOT* add my voice to
yours requesting these things.

I view the availability of fonts and character colors as obtrusive and
un-needed. Text communication at it's basic is what e-mail is about,
and if you can not get your idea across without simple characters,
then you shouldn't be using e-mail to do it. I use e-mail EXTENSIVELY
(over a 100 a day on average between personal and work), but it will
never replace personal contact and voice communication. When I have
something that can not be clearly communicated by text, I call the
person.

I consider a sending limit of 650 excessive. I should never have to
send a message to that many individual users. I think a lower number
is certainly reasonable, and if it's a limit to your needs, then I
think you probably need to re-evaluate your processes to something
more efficient.

The biggest problem I have with both those "features" is that they
remove my control over what you send me, and gives it to you.
Individually, on a case by case basis, I have no problem trusting you
to control what you send, but when we start talking in groups, I want
more control. The type of mail your talking about sounds very similar
to spam I receive. If you need to communicate with large groups on a
regular basis (like this one) then a newsgroup is the way to go. With
this group I control the type and format of messages sent to me. You
can chose to send in whatever you like, but I control if I receive
each one, or a daily synopsis. I can chose to stop receiving
temporarily or permanently, and you don't have to be involved in that
decision. I also have some assurances that content will be somewhat
patrolled.

So, to restate... I support your right to request that (and don't
expect individual responses to your suggestions, I've never heard of
Google doing that), I will not add my voice to the fray, cause I'd be
opposing your viewpoint anyway.

Hi all,

Appreciate your feedback, black, white or grey. Yeah I suggested it
(darn sure i'm not the first few) to Google, just an option.Hopefully
it works out. Else I'll just have to stick to changing it each time I
send a mail then.

gracias... have a good weekend Goolers.
