Impersonation - an account has been set up using my name and linking to an email address of mine

OK, I am on gmail as ian.miles.manchester.
I also have work email addresses at University of Manchester.
Today I get an email from google:

Hi Ian,
Your Google Account prof.ia...@gmail.com was just used to sign in from Opera on Windows.

This is not me!  I dont flaunt accreditations, so think its unlikely I set this account up.  I havent been in Greece of late. I never use Opera. So I assume we have a scam of some sort.

But can it be nipped in the bud?


I cant log into this account, it doesnt seem to use any familiar passwords. "Password recovery" doesnt recognise my work emails (which is strange, how did google know to contact me there?
Gmail security has an IMPERSONATION link that offers no help at all.

Any advice?  And yes, i have written to "prof.ian.miles" asking for an explanation.

​This is possibly a Phishing scam. I can't tell as the links are all modified by your Outlook client. 
Check that it actually came from Google by examining the headers, see 'Show original' under the drop-down next to the reply button.
