I would look into making a .zip file of the folder, and sending that, just
to make it easier. You can attach multiple files, but one zip file makes it
simpler. Zip files can also handle folder hierarchy, if there are
subfolders.
Be aware that executable files can't be send by Gmail, even those within zip
files.
If the "large" folder is very large, you might want to consider something
other than email to move it. Email wasn't really intended for moving huge
chunks of data.

You don't have to make any ZIP file for sharing a folder..if you have google account, then you open google documents using the same login ID and Password..There is an option given to upload a folder..from there you can directly upload your folder from your PC without making a ZIP. And you can share upto 1 Gb approx at a time..this is good..
