Just noticed today, when I open a message with an attachment, there is
a breif pause and where the download link normally is it says "checking
for viruses" this is quickly replaced by the download link. If it's a
long email where you have to scroll to the bottom you probably won't
see it, unless it's a large file that takes a while to scan. Also I'm
not sure, but I think it's a one time thing.. only the 1st time you
open the email, as I can't seem to get old emails to show it again.

Anyone else notice this, or any announcements from google I've missed?

The virus scanning feature has been implimented for at least 3 weeks.
Google roles out their upgrades to different groups of users at
different times, so you may have just been upgraded.

The attachments will be scanned everytime you open the e-mail.

Yeah... you missed the "New Features" link a couple months back.

Yeah, it's been around a while. I just wish that there was a way to
disable it, or that it would at least let you send .exe or .zip files
now.

i agree with rehsifttam

rename the file externsion as .doc then tell whoever you are sending it to to open it up in windows explorer and rename to .exe

ignore the warning messages telling you that the file will become unsecure or whatever

In my experience, that only works sometimes. Also, it is an annoying
kludge. I've taken to using different archive types, such as bzip2 and
rar. It's still something of an inconvenience, though, when I have to
change an archive from one to the other.
