GMail notifier announces ONCE, "Incoming Mail". If you don't hear it the first time, it's gone.
Is your sound turned up loud enough so you'll hear a voice?

Hi Siddagari

If these emails have some common criteria then it is possible using a
filter. See http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=6579&topic=13302
for help on creating a filter.
Don't forget step 5, and also remember to delete the filter afterwards
(unless you want subsequent messages forwarded).

Cheers

In my ongoing (and, lately, lonely) efforts to get audio notification of new
messages in Gmail via Google Talk, I downloaded (or tried) Adobe Flash
Player 10.  However, I'm still not getting sound.  Does the screen shot
indicate whether I properly installed the program?  ~Dodo

I see you're using Win7, and that your internet connection to the
Google mail server was erroring ...!
I don't know as Gmail Notifier (I used to have three varieties myself
afore moving to Win7, and I used Joanna Lumley's voice file from AOL
to tell me "You've got e-mail" from the Google applet installed in the
sidebar, similar to your display) has been certified under that OS
yet. It's too new for me to have investigated that far!
From the screenshot I'd say you've installed the Gtalk notifier (the
envelope is Red). What "Sound" file have you associated with the
event?

Yeah, it should be fine. I honestly don't know what to tell you, it's
hard to tell what the problem is if you hear it sometimes and not
others (er... is that what happens? I actually haven't been around the
past couple days so I kinda forget), other than just saying you don't
notice.

Hi, John--

First, thank you for responding.  No, we're *not* using Win7.  I don't know
why you thought we were.  Also, I have no knowledge of any error to the
Google mail server.  I included the screen shot for confirmation that I had
properly installed Adobe Flash 10 because the process did not go smoothly
for me.  I had read that Adobe Flash 10 was required for sound with Google
Talk, which I installed solely to get audio notification of incoming
e-mail.  The Gmail Notifier used to do that but no longer.  I don't
understand what your question means regarding a sound file.  ~Dodo

No, Ryan, I have *never* had sound since installing GT; I get only visual
notification, which I don't always see as it is in the lower corner of the
monitor and is so small.  I was not interested in Google Talk until you and
Elihu suggested it to provide visual and audio notification.  The Gmail
Notifier had stopped functioning in this regard.  So now I have (1)
installed GT and (2) [tried to?] install Adopbe Flash 10 to get sound for my
e-mail notifications via GT.  I also still have the Gmail Notifier installed
but don't imagine that is the problem.  Maybe I will uninstall--then
reinstall--Google Talk, but I don't know why a reinstall would make a
difference.

I just unstalled and reinstalled GT.  Still no sound.  Do I need to
uninstall the Gmail Notifier?  I can't imagine that is interfering.  I was
asked if I wanted to uninstall GN during the GT installation process and
this time said yes.  But it didn't uninstall the GN.  (The first time I
installed GT and was asked about uninstalling GN, I said no.  However,
nothing was said that I should or GT might not fully function.  That is one
reason I don't think GN is the problem.)  ~Dodo

It shouldn't matter that you have it installed, although it is weird
it didn't remove it when you told it to. I honestly have no idea what
the matter is without looking at it myself, sorry.

Well, when I clicked on the 'More options' on your original posting,
there was "Find messages by this author" (last link in the blue row
"Reply | Reply to author | Forward | Print | Individual message | Show
original | Report this message | Find messages by this author")
clicked on it and up comes a Google page of 23 messages all attributed
to you!

There is no setting...  It's a standard feature, which cannot be turned off.
On the other hand, it should only add them to suggested contacts until you
send mail to them multiple times; then they'll go to "My Contacts" where
they remain on the list permanently.

I just found--and deleted--four such "contacts."  I think I also saw one
previously and deleted it once before.  As I mentioned, this seems to
correspond with installing Google Talk, which I have done twice (uninstalled
once and then re-installed).  ~Dodo
