Attachments disappear when I reply to message

I just received an email with documents that I requested.  When I replied to thank the sender, the original message and the thank you reply went to my sent folder - but the attachments are nowhere to be found. How can I retrieve the attachments?

When you reply to a message, attachments are not included in the reply.  But they are still attached to the original message.  Did you try looking at the original message to which you replied?
