I read my Gmail via a few different devices everyday, Thunderbird via IMAP, gmail.com, and my Android device via Gmail.  When using Thunderbird and the web interface I have turned off conversations (not a big fan of it) and see each individual message.  But, when reading on my Android device either using the Gmail app or the gmail.com website via my mobile device I do not see a way to turn off the conversation view.  Am I missing something obvious?

Thanks,
Jeff

You can turn Conversation mode Off (on a global basis) by clicking on Gmail's Settings, the General page, scroll down to Conversation View, and select it to Off. [Don't forget to Save Changes!!]
Then you'll have each message come through uniquely on whichever platform you view it.

Thanks for the link.  So, it is not possible right now.  At least I know that I am not missing an obvious setting.  Hopefully they will add that feature soon.

Conversation view is off in my Gmail settings. Yet in Gmail for Android
and Gmail webview, it still shows in conversation view and not in
individual message view. Only in regular webview do the individual
messages show.

Some users have suggested a solution by using a different Email client  - K9 Mail client - is free. Not tried it myself...
I have seen reports that it works perfectly for some users; but others find it buggy. Not tried it myself...
It's possible to configure your mail app (not the gmail app) and have mail delivered using IMAP, and so get "unthreaded mail":-

"Google's Android crew has confirmed to me that the Gmail Android app doesn't support non-Conversation View viewing at the moment. The threadless option won't affect the way you see messages on the regular Gmail mobile site as of now, either. So unless you always load the full Gmail Web site in your mobile browser -- or you use Android's non-push E-Mail app instead of the native Gmail application -- you're out of luck when it comes to group-free on-the-go viewing."

There seems to be a general lack of respect between the web-based
'global settings' and the Gmail Android app. For example, if you set
a default outgoing email account to be x...@yourdomain.com, then every
new email you compose in the browser will be from that account. Yet,
if you compose a new message from the app, it will default to your
gmail account. You have to remember to set it each time - and do it
as the last thing you do before you hit send... otherwise, if you've
changed and then do anything that takes focus off the email, it will
revert back to gmail. Very frustrating. I know this isn't related to
the threaded email topic, but it's the same general inconsistency.

Threaded emails are a real drag when applying filters. For example,
my alarm company emails me when my home is armed/disarmed and when
there is an alarm. I can differentiate emails based on content (i.e.
one will say "house armed by...." and another will say "Burglary
alarm, rear perimeter breached...". Using these key terms, I apply
labels as "arm/disarm" and "intruder". But, with the treaded view,
because the sender is the same, they all get lumped together in both
labels. That makes the labeling system completely useless.

Oh well. Hopefully someone will find the time to polish up an
existing product rather than make all those cutesie videos...
