Can't read incoming forwarded messages

I can't seem to find anything about this anywhere...

When you receive a forwarded message in Gmail (likely an email with
tons of rich text), Gmail just gives it to you as a .eml attachment,
which you then have to open in Outlook to read. Is there a way around
this such that the forwarded messages will read just as they would in,
say, hotmail?

I'm trying to switch my mother to Gmail, but she's giving me a hard
time about this one issue. Personally, I hate forwarded emails and
this issue doesn't bother me in the slightest.

Gmail does not support message/rfc822 attachments. They are treated
as plain text. The only solution is to get your correspondents to
forward in-line, rather than as attachments.
