I know there is a setting somewhere to add my email addresses to my contact list automatically.  I want to stop this from happening.  Now I can't find where the setting is.  Can someone please tell me where that is?

Thanks.

There is no setting...  It's a standard feature, which cannot be turned off.  On the other hand, it should only add them to suggested contacts until you send mail to them multiple times; then they'll go to "My Contacts" where they remain on the list permanently.

Alan - Zack is quite correct, in that you cannot turn this action off.
,
Perhaps what you were looking for is on the 'drop-down Menu'
(from the arrowhead next to Reply on the upper right-hand side),
where - if the address doesn't already exist in All Contacts - it
offers "Add xxx to Contacts List".
Given that I was able to determine this by reference to a
previous e-mail I had received, I must conclude that addition of
new addresses doesn't always happen "automatically"!!

Thanks all.

I'll try to figure out what's going on.  The drop-down is more what I had in mind.  I just can't figure out how the email addresses got added to my address book if they don't get added automatically.  I wouldn't have purposely put them there considering I don't even recall who they are.

Addresses you SEND to are automatically added, address you RECEIVE from, are not.

I understand Zack.  I still think it would be beneficial to be able to turn this off.  There are people I write to just one time and don't plan on contacting in the future.  It's not necessary for me to have their address I don't think.

Agreed... I think that's why GMail has it on their frequent suggested page... we can always hope, the more we click it, the more likely they'll implement it.

In case you've misplaced it... here's the suggestion page link:

I just added it to the suggestion page.  Thanks!
