The file name of an attached file is the one it had when it was
attached to the message to be sent. If you attached a file
"myfile.txt" to an email, or to several emails, that is the name it
(or they) will have. The name sticks with the message to which it is
attached. Gmail doesn't change it.

If you want them to have different names, then attach them (upload
them) with different filenames.

Hi Libor

This just doesn't make sense. Attachments are base-64 encoded into
emails. That file, no matter if it has the same name as hundreds of
others, will always be encoded with the original email.

Have you cleared cache and cookies.  Your browser may be assuming it's the same file and pulling from cache rather than downloading it fresh from the e-mail.

Hello Andy,

I'm afraid you didn't get my point. Assume this scenario:

- on Jun 7 you sent an email with a file a.txt to em...@email.email
- on Nov 11 you sent another email with the same file, but slightly changed (filename stays) to same address
- few days later you want to check contents of the a.txt you sent on Jun 7
- you open the mail sent on Jun 7, try to download the a.txt file, but you got one you sent on Nov 11

Cheers

When you downloaded the file "a.txt", did it save as "a.txt", or did
your operating system attempt to rename it to something like
"a (1).txt" to avoid overwriting a file you already had on your
computer's disk?

Or, when prompted, did you tell your operating system not to overwrite
the file that was already there on your disk?

(I have not had a problem with my browser thinking it was the same
file, and needing to clear the cache first. My browser is Chrome.
Your results might differ.)

I would also doubt that the problem is with the browser cache, the
download URL will be different for each attachment, regardless of file
name.
