Has anyone had this take effect in Gmail?  I ask because I don't schedule events through Gmail.

Sent the original message from Gmail but wanted to have updates here sent to me.  This is the only way I could figure out how to do this.

Yes, and I've used it.

I tried to test it by sending a Gmail msg. to myself that had a date and time in it.  These did not become lightly underlined.  Everything was "normal."  What's the secret?

Any ideas as to why some of us are unable to use this feature?

Diane,

As with any other feature, sometimes it's not in everyone's box at the same time, and even when it is, it does not work 100% of the time.

If you'd like to discuss it in person on July 22nd at 7PM, we can meet at the Starbucks to figure it out.

That sentence, is not meant to be serious, but IS in the format of messages I had when I noticed the feature.  The date/time was underlined and was a link to "add to calendar" type message.  If my guess is right, anyone with the feature in their box MIGHT get that reaction from that sentence.

I haven't used this feature. But I noticed that on my screen, the
date/time is not underlined ... UNTIL I move the mouse over it. Then
it becomes a hotlink to "Add to Calendar".

On mine it is ever so faintly underlined with a dotted line.

Not all formats work either. I sent myself the following from another account "Let’s meet tomorrow at 7pm or otherwise on 10th July at 9pm?"
Gmail picks up the "tomorrow at 7pm" bit but not "10th July at 9pm".
Interestingly my iPhone's native Mail app sees them both. I guess it will improve over time.

I got the same result... 10th didn't pick up, but tomorrow did.

It is a very faint underline.  It might be there just very hard to see.

Yes, it worked for me.  July 22nd at 7PM had a dashed underline underneath it and when I would put my mouse over it, there was a link that said Add To Calendar.

Zack, Andy, Marko, and Jeff--

Thanks to you all for responding.  I did see it on Zack's invitation to meet him at Starbucks.  Since it rolled out in May, I figured it should work on everyone's Gmail by now.  On my self-test, I think I didn't hover the mouse over but merely looked at the text.

Zack--I am disappointed we're not meeting at Starbucks.  I would have treated!  BTW, how did you know I'm Diane?  No problem at all; I was just curious.

P.S.:  It still doesn't work on my self tests.

I don't see it on my own outgoing... I'm guessing it feels I don't need to be told about a meeting that I'm setting up.

You've responded to the list at least one time as Diane (with last name), and therefore my GMail has picked you up as an auto-contact, and even managed to pull a photo you have set (on a blue-ish background).

I'm not a coffee drinker, but appreciate the offer.

That's what I figured and have no problem with it.  But did that also include my gmail address?  I'm fine with your having it--you might need it for another meeting if not at Starbucks.!  (I drink coffee or tea, but I have never gone to a Starbucks or any other coffee place.)  But I wonder if that's why I very occasionally get an invitation to chat from total strangers.

My photo is on my Gmail messages.  Actually, I don't understand how you've received all that if my responses are to the list.

You have signed your emails to this group many times as Diane. Actually, I prefer that - not too comfy calling someone a Dodo :P That's why I have referred to you simply as 'D' in some of my messages...

I'm chuckling at this conversation.  My Gmail signature setting is Diane, and I've had to make an effort to remember to delete it, apparently not as successfully as I'd thought.  ("Many times," Marko?  Yikes!)  And now I'm going to stop!  Dodo is what three of my grandchildren have always called me.  As to why, let's not go there!   (As they got older, they laughed when they learned what a "dodo" was.)  I noticed you've called me "D," Marko.  I'm fine with that informality.
