How do I delete over 5000 emails?

OK I have to admit, I do not use my gmail account, but I want to start
now! I started it awhile ago and then left it alone and used my other
account. So now I have over 5,000 emails and I don't want to go page
by page and delete them all. What is the easiest way to delete my
emails and start new? You may want to send this to my old account as
just responding to this will end up in that pile of 5000 emails. The
account I use is italys...@yahoo.com

Deleting them 100 at a time is the only way to do it via the web
interface. You can go into Settings and enable POP in the "POP
Download" section under Forwarding and POP:
1. Enable POP for all mail.
2. When messages are accessed with POP: "delete Gmail's copy"

delete 5000 emails but also keep in mind that most of the popular POP
email clients have a 3-5 minutes server time-outs. Sometimes the client
times out and does not pick up from where it left off when it starts
downloading again, it starts the download from first email all over
again!!!! I am not aware of any POP clients which have longer server
time-outs, might be useful for you to research that.

The timeout value only refers to the time it takes for the client to
make a connection. One the account is connected, it has a zero effect.

friends) went crazy sending out huge files as attachments since Gmail
had opened up a completely new avenue for us. Some months later I
decided to go to POP on Outlook Express. By that time I had accumulated
a lot of stuff in my Gmail account. Everytime I tried to download the
emails Outlook Express would download about 10-15 emails and then I
would get a message that Gmail server timed-out. I tried to download
again and it began downloading from the beginning and then gmail server
timed-out. Thankfully by then Yahoo had increased their attachment and
storage sizes so I was able to transfer some emails there and finally
was able to work the POP thing.
So it might not be about server time-outs but trying to download huge
or lot of emails into POP client could pose some problems.
