I have a problem when mails are being forwarded from Outlook (Express)
to my gmail account. The forwarded mail is available as a text
attachment that cannot be read and has no extension.

it looks something like this (I assume screen captures are not
appreciated here...):

<<heading of the original e-mail>>>
7K View as Text Download

If I click 'View as text' I get a non-readable text file with some
words from the original mail, including some formating statements in
txt-format.....

When I choose 'Download' the file (without extension) is also not
readable...even when I save as an .htm file.

Have I missed some setting in GMail? Why is the forwarded mail not
simply readable like other forwarded mails?

Any help is appreciated

I think there's a setting in Outlook which will let Outlook decide the format to be used while sending emails. That might be the problem as fas as I can see.

BTW: It's OK to send the screenshots. As long as the format is PNG, GIF or JPEG.

Gmail always displays attachments of type "message/rfc822" as plain
text, rather than trying to format them as messages. Send in a
suggestion to support correct formatting.

If you forward the messages in-line, rather than as attachments, they
should be readable in Gmail.

Yes, but too often the sender has already sent it in a for me
unreadable implementation. Everytime I need then to reply to the
sender to ask him to change settigns and send again.....this is hardly
user friendly from Gmail. If no other (inclduing webbased mail
programs) has this problem, then why cannot Gmail solve it!! Bad bad
bad!!!
