I wondered if I was the only person in this Group to have received one of these?

I was pretty annoyed to receive this unsolicited invitation from "Bettor", who appears to be using Google Groups to try to set up a number of betting related businesses.
Needless to say I reported it as unwanted.

I've received some unwanted invitations as well, in Spanish no less.

I'll do some research when I get home, but I'm not certain that there's any way to block invitations if someone has your email. Seems that would sort of defy the purpose, IMO. For now, just set a filter that persons email to automatically be deleted.

In Google Groups, there are protocols & rules about who & how you invite -
I don't have time to quote them right now, but unsolicited additions or invitations to Groups are frowned upon, and stealing names/addresses from other groups can be sufficient grounds to get an account shut down.

I suspect my address may have been taken from this group. And so my curiosilty as to whether others have received unsolicited invitations from "Bettor".
I have absolutely nothing to do with online gambling or betting.

A quick search of "Bettor" in Groups revealed that this person had just created 7 new Groups (at that time - mid july) all offering Betting services of one type or another, and all apparently designed to generate revenue.

I used to have a strict principle, that I would not buy goods or services from any company, business or individual that cold-called or canvassed me or junk-mailed me without my explicit permission - it's getting difficult to uphold :-)

In your "Google Groups" settings page, the very top two options have to do with whether someone can invite or add you to their group: http://groups.google.com/groups/mysubs?hl=en

Cheers Zack! I was unable to find that. Right in plain sight too. ><

Until now I had only chosen to prevent "add me", and had not had any problems.
