Is gmail trying to take the next step or is it a mistake - 1 TB
Accounts ? Check out this blog post:

http://google.blogspace.com/archives/001241

who says that his mail box says "You are currently using 437 MB (0%)
of your 1000000 MB", he's got a snapshot of someone else who shows the
same as well.

As for me, its still "46 MB (5%) of your 1000 MB." :)

Hi, do you notice that the time is marked as May 18, 2004?
It has been testified as a bug, and Google also has patched the bug
for a long time.

it was a bug because they were implementing 1tb accounts for all google
employees using gmail. when doing this, it accidentally spread to all
gmail accounts until they were able to fix it.

Damn, if that is true (I heard otherwise) what the hell would you do
with 1tb of space. I have a 120 gig hdd and I can't even fill that
up, let alone with email. haha

not to mention, it would be impractical if thats what they were really
doing. Why say 1000000 MB and not just skip up to 1000 GB that would
make more since. Kinda like them saying "You are using 3000 KB of
your 1000000 KB."

In 2 and half months of somewhat normal use, i have 60 Mb used (ok, at
first i was deleting the trash and spam folders, but after i realized
there was a note about automatic cleaning on those folders i left
google the task, that never did it). 1Gb is not exactly "a mail for
all my life", so 1 Tb is not a so hard to reach limit (ok, was a
mistake, but anyway, being able to have it could not be something that
crazy)

And if you realizes how to use the mail storage system for more data
than just mails (files, appointments, notes, etc), suddently those
limits starts to look no so big.

Never say you have too much cpu power, memory, hard disk and mail
space, in the long run you always will be needing more.

Well, I understand that... I remember:

"640K of memory should be enough for anybody" --Bill Gates, 1981

So, I can see that 1 gig might become as common as 1 meg providers and
a 1 tb account will be the new 'wow'. =)

And anyway, as long as you don't use it, it couldn't be so much of a
problem for Googles.

Sheesh, terabyte accounts.

So long as they limit attachment file sizes, or they'll be having
people receive whole 700meg AVI DVD rips....

And then, of course, Google will get accused of aiding video piracy,
'cos in America, it's always the manufacturer of a misused item that
gets blamed.

Well, I remember when google had a voice search in the labs. You
would call a phone number and tell it your search and it would reply.
It was a cool deal, but I haven't seen anything on it latly. Maybe
they will impliment this to gmail? =) We can always hope...

I think Bill was actually talking about the employee stock options, so
he said "640K should be enough for anybody".

Have you ever said something dumb, and went back as was like 'no, I
never said that'. Sure, we all have at some point. I really don't
think he would admit it anyway.

Wait, this isn't the point of this thread so why are we talking about this...

That's just the beginning of the GB's storage fight. ;-)

The hotmail 2gb accounts I think only applies to paid users.

Well, if it does, then I'm sure gmail will unveil the terabyte
upgrade, and it seems they have tested it... *wink*

I looked at aliencamel, and I love how so many websites are like "and

Imagine Gmail with a 1TB or an unilimited storage and an IMAP access !

Whaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaooooooo !

That's why Google need to change their privacy policy. Because IMHO Google
does not respect enough user privacy.

"Don't be evil" as they said... Hum... I see an incoherence from my
over-Atlantic point of view.

How so, because they display ads? It's a simple automated process.
It's not like anyone is reading them. It's like all those damn
tracker cookies that try to show relevent ads. If I am going to look
at ads, id rather see ads that apply to what I'm talking about. Who
knows, maybe I'll click something... =\

Exactly. Don't forget how unobtrusive they are. Nothing flashy. I
don't even notice them anymore. And they provide some laughs at times,
when they catch on a word and show something way off context from the
email you're reading :)
In my opinion, if that's all it takes to pay for a great product, I'm
all for it.

Precisely, I wish people would quit there bitching about it. It's
FREE, if you want to pay for something that dosen't have these
unobtrusive advertisements, then do so quietly. It's free, and google
needs to pay for their one gig of free space. and to help them out, i
click on a few. I usualy don't do more than just click though. =)

Odd -- I'm able to open the links in Firefox 0.8.

Oh, and firefox users can adblock the ads if they reaaaaally hate
them. I find them so unobtrusive and occasionally amusing that I
don't bother.
