I am composing an email with attachment, I am sending to a valid email
address, everything appears to be OK.

After I click to send, I see a yellow highlight that says "Sending..."
then "Loading..." then "Your message has been sent. View message"

When I go to my Sent Items folder, it says "To: me" ???? and (no
subject) ?????

This started happening last Friday, May 1, 2009.

Does anyone else have this same sent mail problem?

The messages which appear in your Trash/Sent Mail are a temporary
artifact of the new-ish Attachment system.
You should find those files disappear within 24 hrs.
If you want to check that out, click on Settings, scroll down to
Attachments, and select the Basic attachment features setting.
Click on Save Changes, and then you're back to selecting one file
at a time. But you shouldn't see those artifacts any more.

I selected Basic attachments, but still no luck sending mail.

Maybe there's a bug with messages as they are being auto-saved in
draft form?

I've never really had any trouble with gmail. I'm trying to send
resumes and apply for jobs right now. I guess I'll have to use my
hotmail account instead.

Thanks for your help.

Just to let you know, I configured my Outlook Express for gmail and I
am able to send my emails just fine, no errors. I am using the IMAP
settings, and they appear to be working all right.

I have exactly the same problem. Very annoying since there is no error
msg, only an empty mail in Sent Mail.

Here is my workaround:

Just before I'm about to send the mail I copy & paste the recipients
and the mail text to Notepad and back into gmail.
Then the mail will be send.

I hope this information is helpful in order to fix this bug.
