According to this link Gmail displays a warning if the size exceeds about 10 MB. Will the warning be displayed in OE? What will happen if we ignore the warning and choose to send the mail? Is this limit applicable for file attachments or even for images copied in the compose window while sending from OE?

As the link explains, the 10M is the total message size, so text,
attachment, and inline images all count.

Using OE, you'll be sending through SMTP. I personally don't use SMTP
so someone else will have to give a definitive answer, but I suspect
that the message will fail on upload and you won't be able to "ignore
the warning and choose to send the mail". This won't be an MS
failure, but a protocol level one.

Any SMTP users out there who know this answer 100%?

I'm not an SMTP user, but I know the answer 100%. The limit is 10 MB
encoded message. Expect a 33% increase in file size, so a reasonable
limit for files is 7 MB. This limit applies to any SMTP message being
sent through Gmail and any message being sent from Gmail to non-Gmail
address via the web interface. The limit is 20 MB (14 MB before
encoding) if sending Gmail-to-Gmail via the web interface.
