Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): Unknown error. [upon accessing gmail with chrome, only, okay in FF, mutt, t-bird)

I get a Error 107 (net::ERR_SSL_PROTOCOL_ERROR): Unknown error.
everytime I try to access gmail via google-chrome, only.
I can read the mail in thunderbird (icedove) or mutt, without issue,
and can even access the web interface with firefox (iceweasel,
actually, the debian version).
This is on Debian/Stable (lenny).

I cleared browser history, cookies, etc., and still, no joy.

According to this thread: <http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Chrome/thread?tid=6052fff553a29392&hl=en>  It's a Chrome bug in the linux version, and a fix link has been posted there, two actually as I count it.
