When I bring up Google Calendar, the default time (in the scrolling
list of times at which I can add new reminders) displayed is 5 PM. If
I'm thinking about it, I can scroll back to 6 or 6:30 AM, which is the
time I usually access the Calendar. But if I'm not careful I'll add a
new item at 5 or 6 PM instead of 5 or 6 AM. How can I change this 5
PM display time?

In the left margin of the calendar opposite the 5 PM time, I see a
small arrow pointing to the right, but I haven't found a way to move
that arrow.

I tired a Search on this forum using a few different search terms, but
I couldn't find anything which applied.

I tired going to Settings, but there's nothing there which changes the
initial time displayed in Calendar.

I seem to remember discussions about this problem on this forum, some
months ago, and I think at that time there was no "fix" available. I'm
hoping there is a fix now.

Well, this forum/group is about Gmail, not Calendar, so finding something here about Calendar will be somewhat difficult.

The red pointer/line is always displayed for/at the current time of day--you can't change that via some Calendar setting obviously. Generally, my display always gets positioned with a "start time" a few hours before the current time--so the current time will about midway between the top and bottom of the display; I seldom see anything different (but I don't use Calendar much anymore). The apps version of Calendar is supposed to have some highlighting for the "workday hours" (shaded or something)--which might help you out, but I haven't seen that option in the standard version of Calendar. There used to be a style or two at userstyles.org which supposedly did something similar, but I never used it/them, so I'm not sure if it worked well or not.

When creating your event you can first highlight the time it's for, then create, or in the creation phase type something like "at 6am" and it will set the time to that for you.

Hi Joe -

Yes, I know this is a Gmail group. I access the Google calendar only
when I'm using my gmail, so that's why I thought this group would be
a place to ask the question. The info about the placement of the red
pointer is helpful. I'll try to ask my question to a straight Google
group. My luck getting replies from Google hasn't been so good in the
past, but maybe things are better now.

You could always use the official "Google Calendar Help" forum at  http://www.google.com/support/calendar/?hl=en-uk  to ask your question!

Bill, if you decide to make use of JohnW's suggestion above (in which I concur) and you do get a helpful reply from the Google Calendar Help fora, could I ask you to post back here, either with a link or a summary, so that we won't miss it ? Thanks....

Henri – I’ve just spent an hour or so reading through several pages of the Google Calendar “help” forum. I notice that very few of the questions are ever answered. This is the same situation I noticed the last time I needed to ask for help from Google itself. I did post my question to that user’s group, but it’s very unlikely that I’ll get an answer. If I do get one, I will relay it on to the Gmail group. - Bill

Please do report back, Bill. The problems you mention are characteristic for user fora - if enough knowedgeable users want to devote their free time to helping their fellows with issues related to a certain product, then one gets a lively discussion and a lot of suggestions as to how to troubleshoot problems ; if not, not. I use the calendar from time to time, but it's not essential to me, and I don't think I've ever checked the Help fora (before they were archived, I was quite active on the Google Toolbar fora, being selected there as a so-called «Top Contributor», but that was due to the fact that I used that tool on a daily basis, and felt I wanted to give my fellow Toolbar users the benefit of my experience as a sort of payback)....

. The problems you mention are characteristic for user fora

Henri – I’m more used to the photo forums (fora), the photo printing forums, and the forums for Windows XP and Windows 7. There, questions are almost always answered quickly, and resolved quickly. I’ve always wondered at the numerous people on those forums who stay with it, year after year, helping people like me with problems large and small.

My interest in the Google Calendar stems from my attempt to “train myself” to use the DroidX more often. Unlike my Outlook calendar, I can access my Google calendar with the DroidX phone – a step forward for me.

OK Ian B, but you don't say how to do it.  How does one change the default time setting to start the day?
