Anyway to create a link when composing an email?

If you are using the Rich Text editor, click the icon that looks like a chain (in between the happy face and numbering).  If you are using Plain Text, you can't.  However, if you just paste a URL into your email, GMail will turn it into a clickable link automatically.

As well as displaying URLs as hyperlinks, you can turn any text into a hyperlink by using the "create hyperlink" button on the rich text toolbar. Select the text that you want make into a hyperlink first, then click the button and enter the url that you want the link to use.
