When I go searching for this answer, I can't tell when I've found an answer that was correct for an old version of gmail or this one, or something in between...there seems to be no tracking system for versions to which people can refer!

Here's the issue:

I'm in the throes of starting a small biz...won't be profitable until after 2014.  WestRF is a dba I've used for a decade.  So, that's the name.  But the biz is in three rather distinct fields:

Radio systems design (WestRF)
Accessories for musicians (WRFMusic)
Piano and keyboard lessons (WRFPiano)

I'd really like to have all three as possible "em...@gmail.com" addresses.  Can I?  I saw somewhere that if you create too many gmail accounts, they'll start locking some out.  Is this true, or not?

Thanks,

Dave

I don't believe Google cares if you create multiple Gmail accounts.  But why create more than one?  With plus addressing you could create one account, e.g., wes...@gmail.com, and then advertise westrf...@gmail.com and westrf...@gmail.com as addresses to use for those purposes.  All email would go to the one account to simplify logging in to check them all.  You could also create filters to label the emails that are addressed to the other plus addresses.

It's been rumored that Google might start cracking down on people with more than X accounts, where the number I think I've seen was something like 3 or 4.  But I have not heard of anybody yet being refused an account for this reason.

Since Google wants your cellphone number and/or rescue email address when you sign up, they would have the means to track how many you have under that cell number or address.

Plus-addressing USUALLY works, but there are some systems that won't accept a "+" sign in your email address.  I run into that a lot when I try to enter my address into a form, on some online websites.  It's just something to be aware of.

Hi Dave

Just to add my 2c and deviate off-topic, if this is for your business I would recommend that you pay for Apps for Business. With that plan one has access to support from Google, along with other benefits such as additional storage and EAS (Exchange ActiveSync - IMO much, much better than IMAP). See here
With free Gmail, there is no support whatsoever.
WestRF.com already seems to be registered, is that you? If so, I would purchase a single user license at $5/month and then you could have multiple addresses eg. des...@westrf.com, sa...@westrf.com, les...@westrf.com etc.
You would then simply use a filter to label incoming emails for each address.
Your company identity is also important. @gmail.com addresses IMO do not look very professional on business cards and letterheads.

Just before you think that I'm upselling Google, I will advise that you also compare features with Office365. I use both and they compare very well, some people do however like the latter's plan which includes the full MS Office suite which one can install on 5 separate computers. Of course, this does cost more (~2x). See here

Hope that helps!
