Sort by sender rather than subject

How do you sort email by sender rather then by subject? The way it's
set up now is cumbersome and difficult to search back for old emails
you may want to review. I've tried starring things, but that's really
not working for me.
Does anyone know how to reconfigure emails this way -- like Outlook?
Thanks.

You may use labels withsenders names to keep them sorted, automatically.

I've been doing it for a long time....its easy to retrieve[ just click on the relevant label]... and have a controlled search.....

There is no way to sort Gmail on the web - however, what you can do is search for emails form that sender, and it will only display those that meet the criteria. You can also connect via IMAP with Outlook, Outlook Express, Thunderbird, or whatever, and then sort in that program on your desktop. One of Google's Gmail slogans is "Search not sort", but sorting is one of the options on the Suggestions page if you want to navigate over there and vote for it.

To add to what Sean said, if you do a search for "from:sen...@somewhere.com" GMail will show you all conversations that are have a message in them from that sender.

Easiest way is this:

1) Hover on the name of any sender and select 'recent conversations'
from drop down for 'more'
2) Click 'Select all' and then on 'Select all conversations that match
this search'. This selects all search results across multiple pages
3) Click Delete.

Great suggestion. Indeed its easy.
But that's only for the 'recent' conversations right?

Dear Gautam

I tried your method with a few senders...
Its the easiest of them all.
It acually selected all the conversations
not just the recent ones.

I wonder why they chose
the name to that function!!

No, Gmail takes recent conversations as All conversations.
Probably it means the first page as recent conversations, but the pages rated as older contain all the rest of the conversations. That is where the 'Select all conversations that match this search' comes into picture I guess.

Glad you found this method useful.
There is definitely a labelling issue as you pointed out. Some better term is defnitely needed from a usability perspective.
