gmail is written in which programming language?

mostly javascript. I beleive. If you look at the source code for Gmail once you log in, there really isn't much after it loads a javascript file.

AFAIK the interface is Javascript. This is why extensions like
GreaseMonkey are able to modify the default functionality.

But I'm certainly no expert.

The front end is AJAX. Asynchronous Javascript and XML.

I have no idea what the back end is.
