Auto forwarding mail from gmail to a googlegroup

Hi I am trying to set up auto forwarding of mails coming to a generic ID (gen...@gmail.com, say) to several individuals with various mail IDs, not necessarily gmail IDs.
To do this
1. I created a google group which has as members all the individuals' mail IDs as also the generic mail ID, gen...@gmail.com
2. I am the owner of this google group, of course
3. In Settings, Forwarding and POP / IMAP, I clicked on the button 'Add forwarding address'. I enter the group ID as gr...@googlegroups.com. I am told that a confirmation mail has been sent with a verification code and I am asked to enter this verification code and confirm, However, there is no mail sent to either my own personal ID, or the generic ID (gen...@gmail.com or the group ID gr...@googlegroups.com (for the group I looked for a post, but found none)
4. Since I cannot enter the verification code, the process is not completed.

Any help to resolve this is appreciated.

Any help to resolve this is appreciated. 

​Two thoughts:

A)  Try it again.

B)  I wonder if Google Groups is set up to reject all confirmation emails?  It's possible.  That would be a Google Groups problem, not Gmail.  Look for Google Groups support.

​If you send a message to the Groups address itself does it appear?​
