Nesting Gmail contact groups

Is it really still not possible to create nested contact groups?...

Not that I'm aware of, groups are just labels, and you can't label a label.  I know labels can be nested, but they haven't copied that function over.

If you wanted a "Family" group with all the members of "Smith" and "Jones", you can go into those groups, select all, and add the "Family" group to them.
