Hello all,

For years I have been frustrating for searching for email from one person (let's call him Jason Foo) that has many email addresses.

In the search box, I want to say "from:jason foo has:attachment" or something like that. I don't want to have to separately check all 7 of his email addresses.

I was hoping the "merge contact" feature would help solve the problem, but it doesn't...since gmail doesn't allow from:contact  as far as I can tell.

Do y'all know of a solution?

Thanks

It's not the best solution ... but you could use Quick Links.  Set up a Quick Link with a search for all seven of Jason's addresses,  Then you can recall it quickly without having to type it again.  After recalling it, you can add to it (e.g., has:attachment).

If Jason happened to use the same personal name with all his email addresses, you could search for that, and it should find every message he sent with that personal name.  But that's asking a lot.

By the way, to search for Jason Foo you would need to use quotes: from:"jason foo" has:attachment

Actually, your merged contact does offer that way for you.  While viewing the contact entry you have in your account (with all his addresses listed on your page), select the "More" drop-down, and then "View recent conversations..."

GMail will basically just build you a search that finds "from/to" all of his e-mail addresses.  Then you can add the "has: attachment" to the end of that search string and you'll have them all covered.  THEN, you could do as Andy has suggested and save that as a Quick Link.
