Hi all,

I've got a work email account (example, m...@work.com) set up in my Gmail account and I have all emails which are sent to it filtered and labeled with a work label (example, work).

I was wondering, is it possible to filter out specific emails that are sent to this work email account (for example from x...@xyz.com) to appear in specific label (example, xyz) but for it to not appear in the work label.

Cheers,
Jay

Try this
Create a new filter that moves anything from x...@xyz.com to folder xyz

Then modify your existing filter to exclude x...@xyz.com ie

George,

Are the parenthesis and brackets necessary for the original filter to work?

At the moment i have two filters, one with "to:x...@xyz.com to folder xyz" and the other as "to:(m...@work.com,) -{x...@xyz.com}"

Cheers,
Jay

George,

This method did not work. By all means, i was able to filter x...@xyz.com to folder xyz, but it is also still appearing in my work folder too

Thanks.

Jay,

One thing not clear to me is how your email messages are getting sent from your work account to your Gmail account.  Are you forwarding them from your work account?  Or are you retrieving them from your Gmail account?  It makes a difference.

How does the "work" Label get assigned?  It is either from a Filter (which you have total control over), or it happens automatically when those messages are imported by Gmail.  The latter is controlled from Settings > Accounts > Check mail from other accounts (using POP3) ... if that is the method you use.  You can enable/disable the Label there.  If you need to control which imported emails inherit the "work" label, you must turn off labeling them in that part of Settings, and instead create your own Filter to do the job.

Does your second reply today to George mean you have solved the problem?  I can't tell, since they both were replies to the same message (i.e., no new information was given).

Andy
