Greetings

The Gmail conversation feature is one of its highlights. However, I've
got lots of split conversations and threads, just because I or the
other party changed the subject and such reasons. Sometimes I need to
resume or track a conversation, and then I have to read one string
with three messages, then jump to the next with two messages, then the
next with six messages, and so on. I understand Gmail has no way to
infer that all those messages belong to the same conversation, it has
no way to know that the conversation is the same despite one letter
of the subject line was changed, it has no way to realize that the
other party is the same despite it has two or more different email
addresses, and other illogical human behavior, but one should be able
to manually merge and split threads and messages together according to
one's particular needs. That would be REALLY helpful.
This is not my inititiave indeed, nor the first time it's posted.
There's many people who want to have this done. How can we have Gmail
doing this?
God bless you.

Make sure it's on your suggestion form each time you submit it. It is
on mine, the "Ability to add or remove messages from conversations"
checkbox. I believe that since it's a checkbox, it's something
they're planning to have if enough vote for it, so I do my part.

It's one of the two links every Beta tester should know: 1) How to
submit bug reports. and 2) How to submit
feature/suggestion/improvements.

Thankfully both are in the Help Center (reached via the "Help" link at
to top right of your GMail screen).

#2 was moved to a link on the main page about a year ago, and that's
made it easier for most to find. In English it's the bottom box of 6
on the right labeled "Suggest a Feature". I try to submit one about
every month, sometimes more often, sometimes less.

#1 is a bit harder to find, but that's to cut down on the number of
people submitting "bugs" that are really just local user problems.
You have to pass through the troubleshooter, which is linked at the
bottom of most Help pages. You'll have to go through a series of
questions/suggestions to ensure you're not part of a local problem and
do have an actual bug. It also customizes the Bug Report for the
situation you've encountered, so they can find/fix the bug better.

Thank you Zack for your help. However, I couldn't find the "ability to add or remove messages from conversations" chechbox. Was it removed? Or should I write it in the "better ideas" field?

It's a sub-request, under "Conversation View changes" It expands down
when you check it.

A couple of them do, so I usually check them all in turn to see if
they've changed any before deciding which issues are most important to
me that day :)

I've also submitted my vote. I definitely need this feature as well.

Well, why don't we join or something? Gmail is taking sooo long to add it...
