I saw the other threads stating that the Macros aren't working, then
are, etc. Mine stopped working recently. I used to run Better Gmail
and I believe the latest was V 6 that didn't work well at all. So I
disabled that, removed the Stylish Redesigned skin, and am now running
Gmail pretty much "bare" with just the latest MM2 script in
GreaseMonkey.

Presently almost every macro I try to invoke fails unless I click
somewhere else on the screen first. Pretty weird behavior that I
haven't seen before.

E.g., if I have a few messages selected and want to mark them as
'Read' and then Archive them, I would normally just press R, then E.
Now however nothing happens at all. But if I click on a non-active
part of the Gmail screen and then press R and E it works fine.
Firefox 3 is in full focus when I try this - it's not like FF3 is out
of focus or dimmed out or anything. The extra click seems to be a
requirement before any of the macros will work every time.

Any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Thanks!

I have seen this same behavior. It appears to be clicking on the
boxes changes the focus on the page somehow (by frame or some other
mechanism) and makes the javascript unable to track keypresses.
Clicks onto the screen in another region restores this (so does a
number of tabs). I don't have a fix for this behavior (but if anyone
has any ideas...). The best fix that I have found is to use the 'x'
shortcut from google to select the messages, and ensures that the
focus doesn't go wonky.

Sounds reasonable. Thanks for the help! (And for the Macros!!)

I've been noticing over the last few days that the macros have stopped
responding at all (a couple of times each day). I've had to close
Gmail and reload it to get them working again. I've also had to clear
the cache a couple of times in some cases to get them working. Wonder
what Google is up to now... ;-)
