Ok here's what I'd like to do. Maybe someone can help.

I'd like to create a filter that trashes things older than 3 days from
messages within a specified label. Essentially, I want them to expire
because they are no longer of interest after a specified time.

I can create a search that finds these, ala, "...#advanced-search/
subset=all&has=label%3Afreecycle&within=3d&date=today

which comes from entering, "label:freecycle" and date within 3 days of
today.

Can this be made into a filter?

Cheers.

No, I don't think there is a simple search string equivalent to that.
(Advanced search converts it to before:/after: pair.)

You can create a Quick Link or a bookmark with the advanced search,
and use it to get your delete list. That is probably no harder than
running a filter manually.

Anyone else have any suggestions?

Pay attention that even your filter doesn't seem to perform what you want: it will find the messages you want to keep if I understood you properly.

There is the "before:" operator but you'll need to enter a date.
