I was thinking of buying a 250gb external hdd. I've never really
looked into it before, but I didn't know that they need power. is
there a case that will just draw the power via firewire or usb? Also,
anyone know of any good cases that will hold this [1] hdd?

hmm they take a lot of power for it to just be from usb....

now I don't know your setup or what you plan on using this for....but if you just what another drive at home, I suggust checking into a network drive,  so then you can put it anywhere that a cable from your router will reach and you have power.  And then any computer can easily access it.  (as opposed to on your system, where that system must be on)

but ya I don't think it could get nearly enough power out of usb or firewire...

Just get one with an AC adaptor for power and USB 2.0 for the transfers.
That's what I have. It's in a slim aluminium case and looks wicked. They
cost about $15 US.
