I agree. I've personally helped about 20 people I know get a Gmail
account, but have never used the "Invite a Friend" box. A Labs feature
to toggle that OFF would be nice.

Actually since it's not "invite only" anymore I don't see why it's not
in the regular settings. Thanks.

Agreed.

A feature so rarely used by most users (imho) should not take up that
much space in the sidebar.
I can think of a few reasons for putting it there but the current
implementation unnecessarily clutters the navigation.

An alternative to hiding it could be to let it rotate in the footer,
but then (ofcourse) with a link.

I agree. This feature comes from early gmail times. It was only
possible to create gmail account with an invitation from somebody who
already had gmail. It is very obsolete and useless now.

Adding my vote to this thread. It was nice to have this box when
gmail was invite only, and I used it a few times back then. Now there
is little to no purpose for it. I would like to see it removed or
have the ability to turn it off.

I agree with this too. I don't think I've ever used the invitation
box.

Add another vote for this one. It's an unnecessary box now.

I'd like to see the box gone as well.

I too would like to get rid of the invite box.. I have it collapsed
but hate staring at it all the time. I think its an old feature that
no longer needs to be used due to open registration.

Anyone at google listening?? :(

Agree, it's unnecessary, since gmail isn't invite only anymore, and
also it suggests you to invite a contact
so I vote for removal

It would be nice if there was a gmail feature that would allow to hide
it.
But for now I use a firefox plugin for this.
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6076
Works great!

yes,, along with that chat window (i don't use gmail chat personally).
Everyone should be able to remove or add those windows.
That invitation box is totally useless anyhow, everyone can sign up
for gmail yes,, along with that chat window (i don't use gmail chat

I concur. Also, I would really like the lab that allows rearranging of
windows to be expanded so that it also extends to the right side of
the page.

if you send 50 invites or whatever, the box disappears....i sent 50
invites to e-mail addresses that don't exist. You get "Mail cannot be
delivered" errors, but at least the invite box disappears!!!

I agree thaqt the invite box should be hidden not completely removed

but anyway lets ask now for its removal

I dont have any friends, so that box is really useless for me and is a hindrance in my workflow. I'd very much like to see it gone; or at the very least put somewhere else.
