I think these should be standard features, but maybe labs is the first
place they'll turn up. All of these are current features of my classic
(non-web based) email client and are the things that keep from using
the web interface more often.

Stop quoting sigs on reply.
Gmail properly delineates sigs (--<space><newline>), but ignores them
when doing a reply. The sig and it's separator should never be
automatically quoted in a reply - that's why we have a defined
separator!

Quote only selected text.
Don't quote the whole body if the user highlights body text before
clicking reply, quote only the text selected. Allowing for non-
contiguous selection would even be more awesome.

Bottom post reply.
Allow reply to be bottom posted, instead of automatically being setup
for top posting.

Thank you.

I'd like to second this request, and add the option for quoting style
to be selected based on the sender of the original message. Top-
posting is fine for replies to individual senders, but it's frowned
upon on the mailing lists I subscribe to, so having bottom-posting
automatically selected for replies to mailing lists would be a big
help.

I also strongly support the idea of a "bottom post reply" option. In a
logical world it would be the default standard; obviously this world
is not perfectly logical, but logic should at least be optional :-)

("Quote only selected text" is now supported by Labs, it seems.)

I personally would like to see the the bottom post reply and stop
quoting sigs on reply. Like posted before I subscribe to a lot of
lists and my own personal preference is to have it at the bottom.
Other than that I do not have a lot of complaints about the web
interface.

I know it's not necessarily helpful, but I've just completed a
Greasemonkey script which satisfies two above requirements in both
rich-text and plain-text editor.

If you are using Firefox, you may want to take a look:
http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/35866

Nevertheless, I would like to see this implemented in Gmail as well.

Best regards,

Damir
