I could really use some help :)

Using Firefox and Windows XP. For weeks now, the Gmail Icon Notifier
is unable to check my mail. It keeps saying that it cannot connect to
my mailbox. I have uninstalled and reinstalled it but no change. I
think I have the latest version 1.0.25.0.

Any help is appreciated, thanks.

Hmm,

The only thing I can think is that the settings may have become
corupted try going into "C:\Documents and Settings\{your user name}
\Application Data\GIN".
Delete the xml files in there they will be recreated blank and you
should be able to add your account again.

Notifier has been screwed up for a very long time. It is not a
corruption issue as far as I can tell. It is simply that it no longer
works correctly. I base this on the fact that a brand new installation
of Notifier on a brand new installation of Windows doesn't work.
Repeatedly.

I am having the same problem. I tried your suggestion but when I go to
this directory I do not have the folder GIN in my app data file... any
other suggestions? I've also tried uninstalling and reinstalling about
three times... =(

I discovered this and it has solved my problem.

If you've enabled the 'Always use https' setting in Gmail, you'll need
to install a patch for the Notifier to work with this setting:

Download the patch (.zip) < http://www.google.com/mail/help/downloads/notifier_https.zip
>.

Open the folder.

Double-click the notifier_https.reg file.

Click yes when you're asked to confirm if you want to add the
information to the registry.

Restart the Notifier.

I think I may have solved the problem, at least for myself. The issue
was the "Always log in using HTTPS." I discovered a very small little
note that casually mentions that GM Notifier can't handle that
properly unless you download a registry patch <
http://www.google.com/mail/help/downloads/notifier_https.zip >.
