This 'feature' really annoys me. It won't even let you send a zip file
with only pictures in it. :P I played around for a while so that I
could find a work around. Setting a password doesn't work, zipping the
zip file doesn' work. What DOES work is changeing the extension. For
example if your file is named:

my_zip_file.zip

change it to

my_zip_file.doc

This will at least allow friends to share zip files using gmail. Don't
forget to tell whomever you send it to to change the extension back to
.zip ;)

Also note that it won't transfer correctly as a .txt file, you need to
use a file extension that does not initiate a text transfer. :)

I didn't try that, nesting .zip doesn't work. :P Thanks for the info.

I sent someone a zip file recently. It was only a font, but it sent
fine and is still in my sent mail.

the downside is that some people do not have the correct utilities to
unrar files. the safest thing to do right now would be to change the
.zip to .doc. until rar becomes more widely accepted... there is
nothing else to do.

Lol.. it could loosly be said that .zip ~ windows and .rar ~ *nix. Most
unzipping programs will do .rar these days, they just default to .zip.
Even PKzip will decompress .rar files now. Of course, if in doubt,
stick with .zip ;)
