When I set up gmail it gave the option of setting up a second alias to
my current address. I left it blank at the time but now I wish to
create a secondary alias and its eems that I don't have the option.
Can anyone tell me how to set up this alias on an existing account?
Thanks,
BH

I went there but it doesn't say anything there except my security
question and 'seondary email' is that what this alias is? or am I
percieving the askersquestion wrong?

an alias would be your display name. this can be changed either in gmail
(settings) or via your group page, afaik.

no one seems to be remembering what i am talking about...begining to
wonde if I dreamt it but since i saw it when my dad set up his account
(two weeks ago) it makes me pretty confident.

you are allowed to set up a second gmail alias when you first set up
your account. my address is johnat...@gmail.com but I had the
option of ALSO being assigned mytoher...@gmail.com as well.
another gmail address that goes to the same box. ya dig?

no, this is wrong. what you are talking about is a link to a secondary
*existing* account (that you already own). it's got nothing to do with
aliases at all. gmail doesn't have this functionality, except for what i
mentioned before. try quoting next time, hey.

more info from google (from a new invite link/secondary account text box
options)

<snip>
Secondary Email Address

Although including an secondary email address is optional, providing one
makes your account more secure.

If you forget your password, we use two methods to help you recover it:

We send information to your secondary email address, if you've provided one
We display your security question and ask you to provide the answer

Sending password recovery information to your secondary email address is
safer. This will allow you to reset your password without displaying your
security question. Google will also use your secondary email address to
communicate with you in the following instances:

You cannot log in to Gmail
You are about to run out of storage space
We need to let you know about any unusual activity within your account
If you do not provide a secondary email address, Google may be unable to
verify your identity and will not be able to contact or help you if there is
a problem with your account.
</snip>

so please, correct me if i'm wrong.

the example which you gave clearly ARE two different gmail ids and not
one.. you can set using pop and forwarding facility to get messages
from one account in the other, and probably that u can consider as
creating an alias... but this is NOT creating an alias... alias term
as far as i know is used by chat rooms wherein you can create multiple
"alias" or "profiles" ... and to my knowledge, google right now doesnt
has any facility for profiles...

Ashish.
