I have outlook 2003. Never have a problem receiving emails, but it's
been erratic on my ability to send them from outlook.

Yesterday i disabled my outgoing mcafee email virus checking and
outlook and gmail immediately started to work. Worked fine up to a
couple of hrs ago.

So just now i disabled all mcafee email virus checking, BOTH incoming
and outgoing, and outlook and gmail again is now working fine.

Anyone have any clues what is going on that is causing the erratic
behavior, and what part mcafee plays??????

I am a hosting provider and I can tell you that I've experienced this
problem before with Norton applications. Not sure about McAffee but
I'm sure it's the same problem. The thing is I don't know what the
work around is. The only real way to alleviate this is to disable or
reconfigure your antivirus. Also if you have mulitple email accounts
setup in Outlook 2003 you should change your automatic send and
receive to around 5 miniutes if this is configured. Most people set
this to aroun 1 minute.

I don't know what the problem is but I stopped using outlook 2003 after
I got my gmail account. Instead I use Mozilla Thunderbird. It's the
same and gmail supports it and everything. I haven't had problem with
it since.

They're talking about making Outlook cooperate with Gmail. This is
totally on-topic. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain. He
is trying to mislead you. :)

Arrrgh!

1. Google lets you download your Gmail, via POP, to a client of your choice.

2. Microsoft Outlook is an e-mail client.

3. These people have Microsoft Outlook.

4. They also have Gmail.

Think about the implications. I'm sure you'll come up with something
interesting. :)

I have McAfee Virus Scan 9 too, and I had to disable "Scan Outgoing
Email" under options- to allow me to send emails. I still have the
scanner set to scan inbound emails.
