Let me clarify: The new improved version of Gtalk (PC World.com)

Santa Cruz Networks has announced an update to its Festoon video plug-in software so that users of Google's instant messaging service can see who they're talking to.

The plug-in for Google Talk will enable users to hold video voice calls on a one-to-one basis or with groups as large as 200 people, as well as to share photos and applications with whoever's on the calls, according to Santa Cruz Networks.

I tested it out with Cracell, and it looks okay. Depending on what camera you have, the video should come in semi-clear. What are your thoughts?

1) that's not 'the new improved version of gtalk' that's gtalk with a
third party extension

2) video chat is so 1999. so is voice chat, unless you just moved to
the other side of the planet and want to talk to your parents / old
friends ...

Naww Voice chat is fun. I find using Ventrilo too be quite productive when working online with people. Its FAR easier too talk out ideas then type, and you can talk while working, where an IM or E-mail requires you to stop working to talk. Talking is far better. Duh.

I'd be happier if it were a real Google release.  I'll wait til they release something before I do any downloading.

Google Talk really isn't that great yet.  Google started and stopped it rather quickly.  I hope they suprise us with an update soon.

Depends on what you're looking for, I guess, I consider Google Talk nearly
perfect and use nothing else unless absolutely necessary. It does exactly
what I want in an IM client: send text messages back and forth quickly.

And it doesn't do anything I don't want (funny backgrounds and crazy
themes, graphical emoticons, bothersome colors that don't contribute to
actual communication). I'm a minimalist, though. That, and jaded with the
current generation of IMcentric fruits who think "wat r u doin" is a
complete sentence. I consider all these "full featured" IM clients with
graphics and all those other "pretty" features the cause for the complete
lack of intelligence in online discourse.

Naturally, I'm not saying that of this forum! (The lounge may be another
story . . . )

I didn't really mean stopped, but they seemed to have halted development.  No updates since its release, really.

I consider AIM the best web chat client so far.  It has a lot of features, but they're all user-controllable.  I turn off everything I don't want and stick to the bare minimum, but the other options are nice, too.  Video chat is nice.  Plus, the amount of users on AIM seems to far outnumber any other service (and I hate MSN, I don't care how many users they have).  Google could add a few more features and fix up the buddy list a bit, and I'd definitely use it more... if it had a larger user base.

if yahoo messenger doesnt pushes us to install other yahoo products everytime one tries to install yahoo msgr.. i like it much more.. when installing msgr it silently installs yahoo toolbar and other addons from yahoo... which I do NOT want..

same thing with adobe acrobat.. I dont know why it always pushes us to do an update and then says yahoo msgr u already got for free.. which i never wanted to begin with lolzz..

other than these facts, i luv yahoo msgr anyday more than all the existing msgrs... (i am waiting for future release of gtalk though...)

ashish.

That's where we differ, I don't much care about the user base -- not really
"social". The handful of people I keep in touch with on im are all willing
to use Gtalk, so . . . presto, it has a user base big enough for me.
(Something countable on one or two hands, tops ;)

It's certainly not the way to go for mass appeal. I loved "Excite Talk"
back in the day for the same reason--while ICQ, Yahoo and AIM were bloating
. . . it wasn't.

As for AIM, I prefer its software over that of Yahoo!, by far, and over MSN
as well in a number of aspects--but those ads are unforgivable. If I do
resort to communicating with non GTalk users, I just use Gaim or Miranda.
