In terms of economics when the supply is low the demand is usually
high. along with the reason that google through the years had alredy
become a big name people wanted gmail accounts desperately.. while
most people use outlook etc. with other mail services the space does
not make a very big difference. i think gmail used one of the most
simple theories of economics briliantly in thier favour. the start of
gmail has alredy increased the companies share price considerably
high. i dont think it shall be removing the system of invites for a
very long time. cause thats the reason they are selling majorly isn't
it. people used hotmail cause it was a precedor and also because it
was owned by ms.. but gmail is selling a concept "a dream to own a
gmail account" again the best marketing strategy according to me..
hence i dont really see gmail removing the system of invites for a
very long time or ever for that matter..

by the way are there any google employees among us..

so in your opinion do you think gmail will ever go public? or do you
think it will stay invite only?

Derek 2 million users .. do u still say it aint public.. it a concept
dude.. dont think it shall go public before it takes the monopoly ..
or even after.. tell me something.. how interested would a person be
if it were public and there was only a sign-up? the thrill about gmai
is it invites and the stuff u have to do to get one if your friends
cant send u one

gmail started in march a little over 8 months.. 2 million people got
interested.. and gmailswap websites at this point of time has more
usage than gmail.com itself..

gmailswap.com is like a ghost town now though, isn't it?

no worries.... so, back OT, are you close to sources at gmail swap-type
websites? what can you tell us about the swapping phenomenon thus far? i've
been way out of the loop for months now, along with many others here. :P

well the supply of invites is low.. people dont really know how
exactly to recieve invites.. as the supply is low there is a great
deal of word of moputh related sales... and the demand is ever
increasing.. this phenomenon should be around for a while... its
becoming a trend to have a gmail account.. well all i can do is
speculate..
