This is waht happens when gmail public launch is delayed by so
much...Other copmanies providing 1G accnts have got a boost only due
to Gmail which set the trend..

""The expected war between the Internet giants is mainly being waged
in the media, but there is already an Israeli participant providing
free web-mail services. Walla Communications (TASE:WALA) launched free
web-mail in Israel and the US four months ago, and in this brief
period has already recruited a quite impressive number of customers,
that it is disclosing for the first time today.

Walla! CEO Ilan Israely today, for the time, disclosed information
about the company's upgraded web-mail service, and he has nothing to
be ashamed of. Israely said the company's web-mail service already had
one million subscribers in the US and that the number of Israeli
subscribers had rise from 750,000 to 1.2 million."""

im pretty sure that the number of walla users still falls short
compared to the number of gmail users worldwide. there is nothing that
can compete with the gmail webmail serivce.

yeah, and also for me there is the question of long-term reliability.
There are loads of multi-gig email providers coming out of the
woodwork now, but the question is how many of them will still be
around a year from now? Two years? I feel pretty confident that Gmail
is here to stay, whatever changes it may take on in time

yeh i think gmail will be as reliable as google. you know google isn't
going anywhere.. so i don't think gmail will be going anywhere.

I also feel that a lot of Walla subscribers may be people who for
whatever reason haven't been able to set up a gmail account. I set up
an account there too a few months ago, before I got an invite to gmail
(the 1 GB storage was attractive). However, Walla just didn't do it
for me overall

I read somewhere that Gmail now has about 1M users, which puts it at #7
in the email provider rankings, as rated by Nielsen.

I would imagine that Yahoo or Hotmail is #1...so much for ratings eh.
Seventh place though isn't bad considering the limited availablilty of
Gmail I guess

The mailbox size is just part of Gmail's charm, IMHO. It was certainly
attention getting when it came out and it's changed all the major
providers but it's really only part of the story.

Thing is, it's strange, I got some Walla spam... Maybe Gmail users get
spam from rival e-mail providers, lol...

I haven't gotten Gmail yet, but I would like to share my thoughts on
why I would prefer Gmail over other 1GB mail providers such as Walla
and Rediffusion (from India).

In this case, Gmail, from Google, is more well known than other email
providers, so I can count on emails sent from a @gmail.com address to
reach their destinations without being bounced back or classified as
spam. It offers the same reliability and reputation as yahoo and
hotmail addresses.

On the other hand, email addresses that sound dubious/only well known
in a few countries, are likely to be not accepted for use in serious
transactions, say filling in official forms. I've personally come
across instances whereby users are warned of possible rejection of
emails sent from addresses ending with weird titles (such as
@yours.com)
