In this case, Gmail, from Google, is more well known than other email
providers, so I can count on emails sent from a @gmail.com address to
reach their destinations without being bounced back or classified as
spam. It offers the same reliability and reputation as yahoo and
hotmail addresses.
On the other hand, email addresses that sound dubious/only well known
in a few countries, are likely to be not accepted for use in serious
transactions, say filling in official forms. I've personally come
across instances whereby users are warned of possible rejection of
emails sent from addresses ending with weird titles (such as
@yours.com)
