Can you believe this? German Google mail users no longer get the @gmail. They have no other option other then @googlemail.com. The source isn't very informative so maybe we can find some German users to confirm the new finding. I hope this isn't something widespread that Google plans on implementing. No one wants a long address.

it's only for peeps in Germany. current German account holders stay the same apparently (e.g. @gmail.com).

Yeah lucky early subscribers.

Have you found any other information about the change? Does it have something to do with the internet providers in Germany. G(ermany)mail or something?

It was discussed some time back. There was a German individual who had
registered "G-Mail" for offline chats well before Google had a mail
program and such and is now enforcing his trademark.

it is something to do with google stuffing up their naming rights or whatever in Germany. I think some other company uses the name 'Gmail' already, for example.

Yeh it was old. I admit it. But last time it was discussed the change hadn't been made.

There's nothing wrong IMO with bringing this issue up again. It is a bit dusty in here anyway. ;)
