Myjourney to becoming a TV host and producer had a lot of twists and turns and a few distractions thrown in for good measure, but there was always an underlying desire to learn, connect with others and make a difference. In my first year of undergrad I was offered a modeling contract in Singapore for 3 months, so I sped through that first year to take it. From that point forward, I attended regular classes in Lawrence during the school year, then spent my summers overseas wherever I could score a contract while taking online classes.

Becoming a strong writer is essential for working in TV. I think the Film and Media program taught me discipline and critical thinking, which in turn strengthened my writing/communicating skills. Whether that was in the form of writing a research paper or a script, or just forming cohesive ideas to pitch as a story, it was important for me to practice my writing skills in school to be able to do what I do now.

"Unmet: North Carolina's Disability Crisis" is a 25-minute film commissioned by the North Carolina Council on Developmental Disabilities. It shows the real-life situations of individuals with intellectual or other developmental disabilities (I/DD) and what it looks like when their needs are unmet.

The Council has released the film and welcomes organizations, nonprofits, and individuals to host a watch party and having meaningful discussions, while sharing with us what you think. Here's how you can participate:

Oakland University Athletics will host a Selection Sunday watch party March 17 inside the OU Credit Union O'rena, home court of the men's basketball team. The O'rena is located at 569 Pioneer Drive, Rochester, MI 48309. Doors open at 5:00 p.m. The show starts at 6:00 p.m.

The watch party will be FREE to all and Oakland University Athletics will provide popcorn, pizza, water, pop and championship posters (while supplies last). The Golden Grizzlies Band will perform prior to the start of the show and the Oakland Dance team will greet fans at the entrance of the O'rena.

The team defeated Milwaukee, 83-76, in the Horizon League Tournament Championship game to earn an automatic-qualifying bid for the NCAA Tournament, its first appearance since going back-to-back years in 2010 and 2011. The championship win also marks the first time the Golden Grizzlies won the Horizon League Championship since joining the league in 2013.

The Selection Sunday show, which airs on CBS, will be streamed live on the south end broadcast board of the O'rena as the team awaits its seed, opponent and path for an NCAA Championship.

Fans will also have the opportunity to take pictures with the Horizon League championship trophy, the net cut down by the team after their victory and the "Ticket Punched" sign.

Championship merchandise will also be on sale during the watch party. Prior to the start of the Selection Sunday show, there will be a live Q & A session on the court with the team and fans can submit their questions HERE.

Following the announcement of the Golden Grizzlies opponent and tournament site location, head coach Greg Kampe and athletic director Steve Waterfield will address fans and team members will be available for photos and autographs.

The Detroit Lions are back in the NFC championship game for the first time in 32 years, and even though they are on the road against the San Francisco 49ers, you will still be able to watch the game from the friendly confines of Ford Field.

Following the Lions' 31-23 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in the divisional round, the team announced it would be hosting a watch party (tickets here) from their home stadium for the NFC championship next Sunday against the 49ers. The Lions will be on the road playing at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California, with kickoff scheduled at 6:30 p.m.

The Lions will have seating available in 100 sections and reserved seating in the lower bowl, as well as performances from the team's cheerleaders and drumline, according to the team. A portion of the proceeds will support the Detroit Lions Foundation for Youth & High School Sports.

What are Watch Parties?

Watch Parties will gather people together in communities across Turtle Island to participate in the virtual forum. Participants will join the watch parties in-person to tune into the livestream, which can be accessed by anyone with an internet connection. Forum participants can decide to host or join a watch party, or tune in independently from their personal device.

Examples of watch parties are: friends gathered in a living room, colleagues gathered in a board room, or community members gathered in a hall, or any way you can imagine as long as people are getting together to tune in!

What is available to help watch party hosts?

Watch party hosts can apply for funding up to $6,000 for their event. Your group will need to keep track of your receipts and send them to NCIM with your report.

All hosts will receive access to a toolkit that includes activity suggestions, discussion questions and social media tools to support their event.

Other important info:

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until all funds have been disbursed. Please submit your watch party information as soon as possible to be considered.

Applications involving funding over $1000 need to be associated with an organization that can accept the funding. Applications for smaller watch parties with funds $1000 and below do not require an organization.

The Bears welcomed 145 fans to Shooter's Sports Bar to watch the team's Week 2 game against Tampa Bay, which kicked off at 6 p.m. British Summer Time. With a mix of diehard Bears fans and casual NFL fans, the Watch Party allows the club to nurture and grow their international fanbase.

In 2022, the Bears hosted Watch Parties in London and Barcelona. Bears Director of Brand Marketing Insights & Strategy Laura Condella said planning an event outside of central London has been a point of emphasis and that bringing the Bears to Manchester allowed fans who live in other parts of the United Kingdom "to still get love, attention and engagement from us."

"The Bears family really reaches everywhere, so it is always rewarding to see fans who have dedicated so much energy from afar be rewarded," Condella said. "They've given us so much energy and loyalty and passion for years. And part of our brand is about reciprocating that, so being able to take our energy and our gameday atmosphere over to them is really exciting."

Bears alum Anthony "Spice" Adams traveled to Manchester to help host the Watch Party and spent time taking pictures and telling fans about his life story. Of course, Spice brought the entertainment as well, leading dance breaks, touchdown celebration contests and giveaways.

Adams said the fans' passion and excitement last Sunday created an environment that "felt like a home away from home even though we were across the pond." He noted one fan drove six hours to attend the Watch Party, highlighting how dedicated the Bears' international fandom is.

"It was awesome," Adams said. "It's a cool experience to see that it felt like home. The way they decorated it and everything, it would be like a Bears bar that you would go to. You could just feel the energy and we had a great DJ there. In between plays and breaks and halftime, he would pump the crowd up and give out free swag. I'd come up and dance with them and take pictures. It was just a good vibe. I think a lot of the fans there had such a great time."

"Spice always adds a level of fun and excitement and energy and comedy to anything that we do," Condella said. "He's such a dedicated alum and ambassador of our brand. He's also really recognizable for not only our core fans that are there in the UK, but maybe for some of our casual fans who recognize him from his social media presence."

To recreate the game-like feel, the Bears kicked off the Watch Party with the team's hype video that is played at Soldier Field. Other pieces of content from the Bears' social media channels were played at the Watch Party to excite the fans, and attendees were also able to enter a raffle for a chance to win a trip to Chicago to watch the Bears take on the Lions Dec. 10 at Soldier Field thanks to United.

Adams and Bears Monster Squad DJ RIEL, kept fans entertained during commercial breaks, timeouts and halftime, but when the game was on, fans were locked in on the action, cheering and yelling as if they were at the stadium.

In Year 2 of the NFL's Global Markets Program, the Bears remain focused on expanding an already strong fanbase in international markets like the UK and Spain. While the club is still working to finalize plans, they hope to add another international Watch Party to this season's schedule.

"To have these continue to grow is something we're really looking forward to," Condella said. "Being able to engage with and have these in-person experiences with more and more fans in the UK is exciting for us."

The Bears and NFL have announced that the application process for the fifth annual NFL Fan of the Year contest is now open. The goal of the contest is to recognize and celebrate extraordinary fans who inspire others through their love of football.

The defense excelled in Friday's practice, generating multiple plays in the backfield and secondary, including a diving pass breakup by cornerback Terell Smith and an interception by safety Adrian Colbert on back-to-back plays.
