Hi,
We are in a search for a really good sandwich bread recipe.....how many of you mix your own flours and how many buy a brand like Jules of Bob'd Red Mill or whatever...our 15 year old misses white bread, does not like anything out there that I can buy already in stores, we  have tried everything...feeling desperate for advice, thanks, Sandy Federico

My son is VERY picky and we use the Bob's Red Mill mix in the bread machine.  In a pinch he will eat Schars pre-made bread.

I've tried many mixes and pre-made loaves but nothing compares to Udi's sandwich bread (pre-made and frozen). It's soy, nut, diary and gluten free (made in CO). You can order it through their web site and I've heard that the Kroger grocery store chain will start selling it soon.
P.S. They also make a great frozen pizza crust.

I love Udi's sandwich bread.  It is one of the best breads I have tasted.  I have not had it for to long.

Does anyone have a review on breadmakers?  I would like to purchase one and have been checking online but have lots of varying opinions on which is the best for making gluten-free breads.  So I thought I'd ask you.   I love to eat a variety of foods and how I miss a big bite into....  ugh... so many temptations!   I use to make homemade bread... loved working with the dough.   Now though... I'd just like to pop the ingredients into a machine and let it do the work.   There's enough prep time with other foods that take up so much time.

Thanks so much,
Pam

If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered. There is a machine with a gluten free setting.  I use a Bread Man Ultimate (about 4 years old) and it works great.  I use quick setting.  With gluten free breads, I have read that you don't need to do the double kneed or double rise, so a bread machine that you can customize is good.

I love the blog glutenfreegoddess.blogspot.com she is great, has lots of great recipes posted and she did have a discussion about breadmachines and gluten free breads a few months ago.  It would be a great place to start!  :)rachel

Pam,

A few months ago, I purchased a Wolfgang Puck bread maker, refurbished on eBay for $49.  It has a gluten free setting and works great.  My kids love to watch the bread mixing in the glass top.

I've also purchased bread mixes from "Breads from Anna".  They taste and smell wonderful and some of the mixes suggest no bread maker.  (I think it over mixes them and mine came out wet in the middle.  That's what I get for not following the directions...hehehe)  It gets pricy at about $6-7 a box, but then again, everything is in this lifestyle.  But it's minimal ingredients, throw it in the pan and bake.

One thing I need to try that I learned on Rachael Ray is for box cakes.  She had a guest on, who was teaching to substitute this for that.  So for box cakes, instead of the 3 eggs and 1/2 cup of oil, she used a can of pumpkin and the mix.  That was it.  It shaved hundreds of calories off and they showed it with a chocolate cake and said they couldn't even taste the pumpkin and it was super moist.  Not sure how it would work with the g/f items...but might be worth a shot especially with egg allergies too.  Thought I would pass that on.

Good Luck!

Christi
