Hi,
I'm an amateur astronom and a new user of Glue.
I've watched on YouTube the SicPy 2019 Tom Robitaille presentation.
At some point in his presentation he uses a satellite view of Boston, image that includes longitude and latitude informations.
Is it possible to get this image somwhere ?
Or is it possible to build such an image ? - if yes, how ?
Thank you in advance for your help.

Hi Francois,

You can probably find some relevant satellite data sets via a "catalog" of sorts here: https://developers.google.com/earth-engine/datasets/catalog. Once you have narrowed down a particular "data product" you can either access these using the Google Earth Engine (requires registration and approval) or through the portals of such data products.

Also, if you would like to stitch several images, like satellite ones, together, you can try a technique called image stitching or mosaiking. Say you could try googling the term and find some tutorials on how to do it using whatever software available to you. Say if you prefer using Python you may be able to stitch the images using the OpenCV library, for example as described in this tutorial: https://www.pyimagesearch.com/2018/12/17/image-stitching-with-opencv-and-python/

Cheers,
K.S.

Hi again Francois,

I forgot to mention that in case you will be dealing with astronomy image files in the FITS format, you can refer to a set of Jupyter notebooks hosted on GitHub at https://github.com/Caltech-IPAC/MontageMosaics

Hope this helps!
