Hello GLSSN and allies. Someone posted a hateful message outside the office door of one of our strongest allies. We take this kind of thing seriously. Join GLSSN, CSUB's LGBT Safe Zone Allies, and a host of supporters in a RALLY FOR TOLERANCE Tuesday May 25th, 5-7PM in the Multi-Purpose Room @ CSUB (Student Union). ---------GLSSN board

Along with the Ally Rally next week, please consider coming to THIS Friday's Gender Matters symposium. It's 1-6 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room in the Student Union, with FREE FOOD!

Along with free food comes food for thought, including a paper presentation by your co-president Johnnie, who will be talking about literature. GLSSN member Michael Pawlowski will be giving a presentation on the LGBT community at CSUB. Cris Youssef, from our Antelope Valley campus, will be talking about trans persons.

Student posters and presentations fill the afternoon, and concluding the event is a one-act play by student Michael Mejia.

Prior to the play, there will be HOT food served.

You needn't stay for all, but please come for some of the presentations by your fellow students!

Hi everyone. The Ally Rally organizers would like to serve some snacks at the Rally next Tuesday (May 25) and hoped GLSSN would pay for them, about $90. If so, Johnnie and Ed, if you get a consensus from members, please email Christine Cruz-Boone, ccruz...@csub.edu

Thanks! Should be a great rally! Come support GLBT people and issues!

"The premise itself is dubious. A longitudinal study published online this month in the journal Pediatrics found that the adolescent children of lesbian couples fare very well. In fact, they "rated significantly higher in social, school/academic and total competence and significantly lower in social problems, rule-breaking, aggressive and externalizing problems" than others their age."

this is from today's LA Times' editorial on Prop. 8....

For those so inclined - Please see attached sent to me by Professor Tim Vivian, who participated in a GLSSN-sponsored discussion on homosexuality and religion this past school year. Dr. Gubkin is his colleague on the Religious Studies Dept. on campus.

By the way, today marks the 5th year anniversary of gay marriage in Canada. Toronto's gay pride parade features couples getting married on floats, two of them gay men from San Diego.

I was unemployed for a time and had to use COBRA. Under Obama's unemployment program, I only needed to pay 35% of the premium for myself and family members. However, because I have a same sex partner under my coverage and COBRA is a federal government program (thus, it falls under the purview of DOMA), I have to pay 100% for my partner. It was a tremendous hardship. I certainly hope that the federal benefits that Obama plans to extend also applies to COBRA.
