Interesting, Rob. Those of us responsible for
glowscript.org have decided to move to saying "Web VPython" instead of "GlowScript VPython", to make clearer the difference between running at
glowscript.org and running with installed Python. The emphasis should be on "VPython", not on "GlowScript".
Some history (for a more extensive treatment, see
https://brucesherwood.net/?p=136): The
glowscript.org project started in 2011 by David Scherer, the original creator of VPython, and me. Scherer worked on the project for only a couple of months but in that time built the central architecture of
glowscript.org. David, Ruth Chabay, and I wrestled with picking a good name for the project. David liked "GlowScript" ("Graphic Library on Web"). Neither Ruth nor I liked it but couldn't come up with anything better.
Until late 2014, programs had to be written in JavaScript. Now of course it is quite rare for people to write their programs in JavaScript, and the name "Web VPython" is much more descriptive. We also think that the main site should (again) be
vpython.org, with a prominent button to go to
glowscript.org.
