Glowroot vs opentelemetry java instrumentaion

As I understand creator of Glowroot, these days is more involved with opentelemetry java instrumentation project; I wanted to know where does glowroot stands when compared with opentelemetry java instrumentation.

How do we decide which instrumentation library should we use.

A comparison page on github or official site would be really nice.

What I am more interested is in the benchmark.

What I understand is that since glowroot is based on ASM and opentelemetry java instrumentation on bytebuddy, glowroot should have a lower overhead but would like to know more on this.

I tried to revive glowroot and mailed Trask and some of the contributors, which did had interest. After that I mailed Trask again, but then he never answered again.

From commit history it does seem that @trask has contributed to the project as recently as 2 days back, though there was not much activity the entire last year.

Does it make sense to create an issue on github on future of the project visa-vis the open telemetry project.

Perhaps that can get him and other contributors to comment.

Sorry, these messages haven't been surfacing for me recently. I just enabled github discussions on the glowroot repo, would you mind starting a discussion over there?

I feel bad about not paying attention to glowroot for a while now. Unfortunately, I don't see that changing too much in the near future, but if there are things I can do to enable others to take the project forward I'm happy to help.
