I am writing a historical, non-fiction book which partially takes place in Orleans in the mid to late 1950's. I am searching for a photograph or photographs of the Orleans Hotel which was located on St. Joseph Blvd. At the time, the hotel was owned by Ernest Laflamme and later by his son Gaston Laflamme. The hotel was destroyed by fire in 1982.

The hotel played a significant roll in an espionage case in the late 1950's. It was the meeting site for various Soviet KGB intelligence officers who, at the time, were running an RCMP officer who betrayed an important double-agent case to the Soviets.

My book is nearing completion. I have searched various archives and libraries and placed newspaper adds seeking a photograph of the hotel which I can use in the book. I have not had success in locating a photograph. An historical plaque in front of 2802 St. Joseph Blvd., in Orleans displays a small photograph of the hotel. However, I have not been able to reach anyone who can inform me about obtaining a copy of the photo.

Thanks for any assistance the Gloucester Historical Society can provide.

Sincerely,

Don Mahar
