Dear All,

I'm glad to introduce you to a new black scholar who will join our group. Her name is Ms. Mary Ojo. She is currently a Masters student at Queen Mary University of London on the MA History programme. Ms. Mary Ojo is in the final stages of her programme, she only have her dissertation to complete over the summer. Ms. Mary Ojo would like to get involved with the Mormon History Association more. She is planning to pursue a PhD in the next couple of years and want her thesis to focus on an area in Mormon studies/history.

I really hope that you will join me to welcome her.

Dr. Ignacio Garcia should be happy now that I'm going to add more scholars of color who want to do Mormon studies in this group. I agree with him when he said to me that Mormon Studies organization is still too white and we got to change this. Thanks.

Sincerely,

Tojohery Mickael Andrimbahiny,

For now, I am pursuing another academic passion of mine (I started a Midwifery degree in September, after handing in my Masters thesis).

I look forward to contributing to MHA, as I prepare for my PhD upon graduation in 2022. I’ll be using the next three years to engage in independent research, find a research topic and to produce some essays. Please let me know if have any suggestions for my reading list!

I hope to meet you all soon.

Mary,

I've direct-added you to the group. I hope you receive this message both at your gmail account and from the globalmormonstudies list.
It would be great if you could add a Researcher Profile to the GMS website so that people who are looking for scholars like yourself can find you:

I hope to have the pleasure of meeting you in person soon. A number of GMS-related panels were just accepted to the Mormon History Association meeting in Rochester, New York. This is one of the major Mormon studies conferences. If you can make it, we would love to see you there.

Best wishes
Melissa

Mary,

What a delight to welcome you into the community of global Mormon scholars. We are excited for what you will contribute, especially given your unique experience and perspective. Here is a link to my article "Toward a Feminist Mormon Midrash and the Imaginative Reading of Scripture," which you may find of interest: https://www.sunstonemagazine.com/toward-a-feminist-mormon-midrash-mormon-women-and-the-imaginative-reading-of-scripture/. Also, here is a link to an address by President Spencer W. Kimball to the women of the Church inviting Latter-day Saint women to become scriptorians: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/general-conference/1979/10/the-role-of-righteous-women?lang=eng
Are you still in the UK? I ask because I will be presenting a paper at the Mormon Scholars in the Humanities conference in Oxford on March 27-28 and then will be in London for ten days thereafter. If you are still around then, it would be a pleasure to meet you.

Bob
