to Global Mormon Studies

Dear All,

My name is Harry Bawono, and I am a researcher at the Research Center for Religion and Belief, which is part of the National Research and Innovation Agency of Indonesia (BRIN). BRIN is an institution equivalent to the CNRS in France.

I am very interested in pursuing doctoral studies to strengthen my academic and professional work. I hold both a bachelor’s and a master’s degree in sociology from Universitas Indonesia.

I have recently passed the administrative selection stage for the LPDP (Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education)–France 2025 doctoral scholarship. The next step is to obtain a Letter of Acceptance (LoA) from a potential supervisor.

I have prepared two tentative research topics:

1. Combating Islamophobia: The Role, Evolving Perceptions, and Motivations of Mormon Christians and Its Impact on Indonesia.

2. Collaboration between Indonesian Interfaith Networks and Mormon Christian Institutions as Transnational Religious Actors: Reframing Religious Tolerance and Harmony through the Lens of Religious Freedom.

I would be very grateful if you could kindly let me know if there are any prospective supervisors whose expertise aligns with these topics.

I would also greatly appreciate any recommendations for scholars specializing in Mormon studies, the sociology or anthropology of religion, or religion and politics, whom I might contact.

Thank you very much for your time and kind assistance.

Best regards,
Harry Bawono
